As an international student, in order that you apply for/get a new D-2 visa to enter Korea for the first time/re-enter Korea or need D-2 visa extension, you need to additionally submit a Bank Statement to the Administration Office of KU GSIS to get a new Certificate of Admission(COA) (and Certificate of Business Registration, as applicable).


This is because of the strengthened Korean immigration law that we must abide by; we are required to check students’ financial ability more thoroughly according to the regulation of the Ministry of Justice in Korea.



Therefore, it is required to submit an original document of bank statement for the international students


1) who need to get a student visa(D-2) from KU GSIS for the first time

2) who need to get a new student visa(D-2) to come back to Korea planning to apply for the return from absence

3) doing coursework within the general given period of registration for completion and need to extend your student visa(D-2) for 1 or 2 semesters

4) who need to extend a student visa(D-2) while taking "extra semester(s); 5th ↑" (those who not completing coursework)

5) who need to extend a student visa(D-2) while enrolling as Completed Research Student after course completion (those who only need complete the thesis)

  Students whose bank statement previously submitted is still valid(frozen) do NOT need to submit it again, but need to submit the copy of (new) passport, asking for issuance of COA.



1. Students who need to get a student visa(D-2) from KU GSIS for the first time

(If you have a D-2 visa while you currently enroll in a BA program in Korea, the D-2 visa will expire upon your BA graduation.)


 - In order to apply for a D-2 student visa at the Korean Consulate/Embassy in your country or at the immigration office in Korea, you need to send us an email asking for the COA issuance by submitting a copy of your (new) passport and an original document of bank statementvia both email (as soon as possible; 'email to ask for COA issuance') and international post by January/July 21st, 2023.


- Your Certificate of Admission(COA), which is needed for student visa application in Korea, will be issued only after checking the validity of the bank statement around the middle/end of July (for the students coming Fall semester) / the middle/end of January (for the students coming Spring semester). Once the Certificate of Admission (COA) is issued, students may apply for their student visa.

 

- If you are a scholarship recipient, please submit an official certificate or letter that proves your scholarship status and the amount of scholarship benefits such as monthly allowances and so on for the entire enrollment period.



The bank statement must

 (1) Indicate it has a minimum balance of US$ 10,000 (1 semester left), US$ 20,000 (2~4 semesters left) in one account.

 (2) Be an ORIGINAL document in English with the stamp [signature] from the bank.

 (3) The account holder MUST be YOU or your parents.
      In the submission of parents', please include the certificate of family relations
(or birth certificate).

 (4) Be issued within 30 days as of the application submitting date

 (5) be submitted to the KU GSIS Administration Office via post until January/July 21st

 

 

2. Students who need to get a new student visa(D-2) to come back to Korea planning to apply for the return from absence

 

- All students returning from absence are required to apply for Return from Absence(Reinstatement) via KU Portal(KUPID), which is available from January/July 3, 2023 AM 10:00 for international students. 

  When you apply for Return from Absence(Reinstatement) on KUPID, please upload both documents below.

  (In case of students of Chinese nationality: the original documents additionally should be submitted by international post.)


      a copy of (new) passport (if applicable, a copy of ARC together) 

      a copy of bank balance statement

23-2 Leave of/Return From Absence (Int'l Students Only)

 

 

- Your Certificate of Admission(CoA), which is needed for student visa application in Korea, will be issued only after checking the validity of your bank statement around the middle/end of July (for the students coming Fall semester) / the middle/end of January (for the students coming Spring semester). Once the Certificate of Admission (CoA) is issued, students may apply for their student visa.

 

- If you are a scholarship recipient, please submit an official certificate or letter that proves your scholarship status and the amount of scholarship benefits such as monthly allowances and so on for the entire enrollment period.

 

The bank statement must

 (1) Indicate it has a minimum balance of US$ 10,000 (1 semester left), US$ 20,000 (2~4 semesters left) in one account.

 (2) Be a scanned copy(clear photocopy) of official document in English with the stamp [signature] from the bank.

 (3) The account holder MUST be YOU or your parents.
      In the submission of parents', please upload the certificate of family relations(or birth certificate) 
with the bank statement (compound them into ONE PDF file).


 (4) Be issued within 30 days as of the application submitting date



3. Students doing coursework within the general given period of registration for completion and need to extend your student visa(D-2) for 1 or 2 semesters


You have to bring an original bank statement issued by a bank in Korea within 30 days for checking purposes, and the account holder MUST be yourself. The minimum balance of your bank statement should be 9,400,000 KRW (6 months) / 14,800,000 KRW (1 year).

In this case, please note that the visa extension is possible for either 6 months or 1 year.


The bank statement must

 (1)  Indicate it has a minimum balance of 9,400,000 KRW (1 semester left), 14,800,000 KRW (2 semesters left) in one account.

 (2) Be an ORIGINAL document with the stamp [signature] from the Korean bank.

 (3) The account holder MUST be YOU.
 (4) Be issued within 30 days as of the 
application submitting date

 (5) be submitted to the KU GSIS Administration Office in person

4. Students who need to extend a student visa(D-2) while taking "extra semester(s); 5th ↑" (Those who not completing coursework)

 

- When you drop by the Administration Office of KU GSIS in order to

 a) get the signature for the 'Explanatory Statement for Extra Semester(s)



You have to bring an original bank statement issued by a bank in Korea within 30 days for checking purposes, and the account holder MUST be yourself. The minimum balance of your bank statement should be at least KRW 9,400,000.

Please note that the visa extension is only possible for every 1 semester (within 6 months).

- When you drop by the Administration Office of KU GSIS in order to

 aget the signature for the 'Confirmation Form for Academic Advisor on Student’s Thesis Schedule'(document for Immigration Office submission) and submit the 'Completed/Completed Research Student Academic Advisor Statement'(document for KU GSIS submission),



You have to bring an original bank statement issued by a bank in Korea within 30 days for checking purposes, and the account holder MUST be yourself. The minimum balance of your bank statement should be at least KRW 5,400,000.

Please note that the visa extension is only possible for every 1 semester (within 6 months).
