About EPI Sofia

The Economic Policy Institute (EPI) is a non-governmental, politically independent and not-for-profit organization, founded in 1997. The mission of EPI is to contribute to utilizing the full potential of Bulgaria by enhancing the competitiveness of its economy and increasing the efficiency of its public institutions. In this way, EPI aims at adding value to the membership of Bulgaria in the European Union and thus at supporting the reform processes in South Eastern Europe. To achieve this, EPI delivers policy recommendations in a wide range of spheres based on economic research and interdisciplinary analyses; elaborates on and advocates for alternative approaches in the field of economic policy and specific economic sectors; encourages public discussions on economic and socioeconomic issues and raises awareness among decision-makers, civil society and other stakeholders.

In 2020, in celebration of the 30thanniversary of diplomatic relations between the Republic of Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea, EPI launched and has been running ever since the Next Generation Korea Fellows Incubator in Bulgaria with the kind support of the Korea Foundation. The NGKFellows Incubator aims at filling the void in Bulgarian policy, academic and public space when it comes to providing professional and objective analysis on policy issues related to the Korean peninsula and the East Asian region in general. The project intends to nurture the next generation of young policy experts and researchers on Korea-related issues in Bulgaria by supporting their research activities and creating a collaborative networking environment. At the same time, it strives to create a platform of informal exchange and facilitate contacts with Korean counterparts.
