Lecture Highlights

  • Climate change is one of the most critical and difficult issues for sustainable development in the twenty-first century.
  • The economic damage from climate change is tremendous, especially in developing ASEAN countries with limited resources.
  • This presentation highlights the risk of climate change and discusses the roles of international cooperation and ODA to mitigate climate change in ASEAN.

Dr. Phouphet Kyophilavong is a Professor and Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business Management at the National University of Laos. He received his PhD in economics from Kobe University in 2003 and has been carrying out research on several topics, including SMEs, macroeconomic management, economic integration, energy, natural resources, and poverty, contributing to such publications as the International Review of Economics &Finance, Research in International Business and Finance, Economic Modelling and others. He has directed numerous research projects and works closely with government agencies in Laos and international organizations such as ERIA, OECD, Asian Development Bank, and World Bank. He has been a visiting scholar at Pukyong National University, Nagoya University, University of Laval, Kobe University, and Nanyang Technological University, as well as a Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar at Harvard University.
