Professor Changrok Soh was re-elected as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee on May 29th, 2024. Professor Changrok Soh, the first South Korean member to be elected to the UN Human Rights Committee, has been part of the Committee since 2021 and is currently serving as vice-chair of the Committee.


The Permanent Mission of Korea to the United Nations announced on the 29th (Geneva, local time) that Professor Changrok Soh of Korea University's Graduate School of International Studies, who is serving as a member of the UN Human Rights Committee (Committee on Civil and Political Rights), was re-elected as a member for the 2025-2028 term.


Professor Soh was elected with the support of 111 of the 171 countries that participated in the vote in the member election held this morning at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.


The UN Human Rights Committee is a UN human rights treaty body that supervises implementation and makes recommendations to the state parties to the 'International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR)'. Professor Soh, along with the other 17 members, is participating in the 141st Session of the Human Rights Committee from July 1st to July 23rd, 2024.
