Professor Suh-Yong Chung collaborates with Tilburg University of the Netherlands for the joint research project, “Rise of the Climate State: Analyzing Socio-legal Transformation in the Anthropocene”.

The project aims to have an insight in how social and legal system in high-income, highly industrialized, liberal democratic states will be changed as the states go through different aspects of social environmental transition toward climate neutral in 2050. The project analyzes climate plans and the policy networks in which there embedded in Brussels, Seoul, Tokyo and Washington D.C., and Prof. Chung will lead the research on the Korean context from 1 June 2024 to 31 December 2028.

It is expected that Professor Chung’s interdisciplinary perspectives on international and Korean climate strategies will make meaningful contribution to this comparative study. Other distinguished academic institutions including Waseda University will also join the project as research partners.
