The Jean Monnet EU Centre, KU Nordic-Benelux Centre and GPAS-Europe held a special lecture ‘Building a New Trilateral Partnership: EU, NATO, and Korea’ on July 18, 2022. H.E. Maria Castillo-Fernandez, the EU ambassador to the ROK and H.E. Hyoung-zhin Kim, a former Korean ambassador to Belgium and the EU came to give a lecture on the topic. The moderator was Professor Jae-Seung Lee, Jean Monnet Chair and a director of KU Nordic-Benelux Center. The event was held offline and coordinated with the summer school ‘European Economics.’ The EU ambassador first introduced about the EU’s neighborhood policy and implementation during Ukraine war. The EU and the ROK’s cooperation is noted. The former Korean ambassador presented Korea’s renewed strategy toward EU and NATO. He emphasized the attention of Yoon’s government to NATO and increasing security cooperation with EU. The role of the EU to Korea is critical, especially in regard to North-South relations. The session ended with Q&A session.
