SPECIAL LECTURE

Is the Korean Economy Immune to the Banking Crisis?

Dr. Yung Chul Park

(Emeritus Professor, Korea University)

This lecture presents a brief review of the prospect of the Korean economy with a focus on recent developments in the financial sector to assess its probability of succumbing to a banking crisis, which could blow up into a full-fledged financial crisis. To deflect this fear, it will discuss some causes and policy responses to the ongoing banking crisis in the United States and Europe. The emerging consensus is that Korea is well prepared for any banking turmoil.
