[코로나바이러스감염증-19 대응]
2023학년도 1학기 국제대학원 특별휴학 시행 안내
코로나바이러스감염증-19 사태가 지속됨에 따라 2023학년도 1학기에 한해 코로나바이러스감염증-19 관련 특별휴학을 시행하고자 합니다. 특별휴학은 휴학기간 및 재학기간에 산입 되지 않으며 신입생도 신청할 수 있습니다.
□ 코로나바이러스감염증-19 관련 사유로 인해 학업을 시작·지속할 수 없는 경우에 한하며 2023학년도 제1학기에만 한시적 시행함
대상: 국제대학원 신입생, 재학생, 수료생으로 다음 가, 나 항목 중 하나에 해당하는 경우
가. 코로나바이러스감염증-19 확진으로 인해 학업을 시작 혹은 지속할 수 없는 자
(단순 확진이 아닌 격리 중/후 합병증 및 후유증으로 인해 학업을 지속할 수 없음에 해당함)
나. 특별휴학 신청일 기준 해외에 체류·방문 중이면서 국내 입국이 어려운 국제대학원생
- 입국제한 조치 실시 국가는 외교부 해외안전여행 홈페이지(http://www.0404.go.kr/)에서 확인 가능
2. 특별휴학 신청기간 및 등록금 환불 금액
가. 신청기간 : 2023년 3월 3일(금) ~ 3월 17일(금) 16:00까지
(전액 환불 희망자의 경우 반드시 위 기간에 신청해야 함)
이후 5월 31일(수) 16:00까지 신청 가능
※ 3월 15일(수)부터 주임교수(1, 2학기생), 지도교수(3, 4학기생)의 개별 인터뷰 진행
나. 신청장소 : 국제대학원 행정실 (이메일 신청: gsis@korea.ac.kr)
다. 등록금 환불 금액
1) 등록금 납부 후 3월 17일(금) 16시까지 특별휴학 신청 및 인터뷰 완료 후 특별휴학 승인을
받은 학생에 한해 신입생은 입학금을 제외한 수업료 전액, 재학생은 수업료 전액 환불됨
2) 3월 20일(월)부터는 “등록금 반환 기준”에 따라 환불함
라. 장학금 수혜자의 경우 코로나-19 관련 사유에 의한 특별휴학에 한하여 장학금 전액 환수처리
※ 단, 아래의 조건을 충족하여 다음 학기(2023년 2학기)에 복학하는 경우에만 장학금 이월 가능
1) 특별휴학에 대한 사유가 종료된 즉시 복학하는 경우에 한해 장학금 이월지급을 허용함
2) 코로나-19 장학금 이월지급은 교내장학금에 한함.
(외부재단에서 지급하는 장학금의 경우, 해당 재단의 방침을 따름)
3) 기타 사유로 인한 휴학의 경우에는 기존 운영방침을 동일하게 적용
(장학생이 휴학할 경우, 장학생 자격 취소)
3. 신청서류
가. 특별휴학원서 [양식1]
나. 확인서(주임교수 또는 지도교수) [양식2]
다. 증빙서류 (*필수제출)
- 코로나바이러스감염증-19 양성 판성 확진 환자에 해당하는 경우 증빙서류 제출
증빙서류 : 코로나 양성 판정 통보서 및 격리중 또는 격리 후 합병증 및 후유증으로 인해 학업을 지속할 수 없는 타당한 증빙서류(병원 진단서 혹은 의사 소견서)
- 비자발급 불허의 경우 관련 공식 증빙서류 제출
- 특별휴학원서의 휴학 사유란에 학생의 건강 상태, 최근 방문·체류한 해외 국가 및 지역명, 학업을 시작·지속할 수 없는 사유를 상세히 기재함
- 장학금 수혜 대상자의 경우, 해당 장학금명을 신청원서 상 작성하여 제출
라. 등록금 환불 신청서 [양식3] : KUPID에 학생 계좌번호 필히 등록
4. 기타
가. 2023년도 1학기에 한하여 한시적 시행함
나. 신입생 첫 학기의 경우, 반드시 등록 후 휴학 신청을 하여야 함
다. 2023학년도 1학기 교내장학금 수혜자의 경우는 다음과 같음
- 원칙적으로 장학금 전액을 환수처리함
- 단, 코로나-19 관련 사유에 의한 특별휴학자의 경우,
1) 2023학년도 2학기 복학하는 경우에만 장학금이 이월됨
2) 2023학년도 2학기에 복학하지 않는 경우 장학금은 소멸됨
라. 코로나-19 특별휴학은 휴학기간 및 재학연한에 미산입함

[COVID-19] Special Leave of Absence Spring Semester 2023
Graduate School of International Studies(GSIS)
Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, Special Leave of Absence can be permitted only Spring Semester 2023 exclusively. This case will not only be excluded into the total period of Leave of Absence but also not be calculated during your study in KU, which Freshmen can also apply for.
□ Temporarily, this Special Leave of Absence is possible to apply in case a student can’t start this semester and continue the study due to COVID-19 situation he/she can have during Spring semester 2023.
1. Eligibility : Freshmen/Enrolled/Course Completed Students who can meet one of the below conditions as students of Graduate School of International Studies
A. Those who cannot start or continue their studies due to the COVID-19 confirmation (which is not a simple COVID-19 positive confirmation, but cannot continue due to COVID-19 complications and aftereffect during or after isolation)
B. Who can’t come to Korea from countries where the restriction of arrival to Korea effects
at the time you apply Special Leave of Absence for Spring Semester 2023
- Only who stay in the countries as indicated at http://www.0404.go.kr/ from
MOFA(Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
2. Period of Application and the Tuition Refund Policy (only for Spring Semester 2023)
A. When : from March 3(Fri.) ~ March 17(Fri.) 16:00, 2023 (KST)
(In case students who want 100% of tuition refund, students must apply during the above period only.)
If not, application is possible until May 31(Wed.) 16:00, 2023 (KST)
※ From March 15(Wed.), Chief Professor(for students in 1st, 2nd Semester) or Advisory Professor(for students in 3rd, 4th or above semester) will individually conduct the interview arranged by Administration Office for the applicants.
B. Where to apply : KU GSIS Administration Office (gsis@korea.ac.kr)
C. Tuition Refund
1) Students who apply, complete the interview by telephone or ZOOM, and receive approval for the special leave of absence by March 17(Fri.) 16:00 (KST) can get a refund.
a. In case of freshmen, 100% of tuition fee except entrance fee
b. In case of enrolled students, the 100% of tuition fee
2) From March 20(Mon.), it’s possible to be refunded based on “General Tuition Refund
Policy” not following above condition.
D. In case of awardee of scholarship for this semester, all amount of scholarship will be
redeemed if you’re confirmed as a student for COVID-19 Special Leave Spring Semester 2023.
※ If you can meet one of the below condition, and return to school next semester (Fall semester 2023), your scholarship offered this semester can be carried over and permitted to Fall semester 2023 only.
1) If you return to school right after solving your issues related with COVID-19
2) This can be eligible to only for scholarship awarded from Korea University not other
institution. (Regarding Foundation Scholarship, you should follow the guideline from them.)
3) For other reasons except the above, basic guideline and regulation of scholarship is
applicable. (Scholarship awardee basically can’t preserve the qualification of that
if they apply for the leave of absence.)
3. Documents needed
A. Special Leave of Absence Application [Form 1]
B. Confirmation Letter (Chief Professor(Students in 1st, 2nd Semester)
or Advisory Professor (Students in 3rd, 4th or above semester)) [Form 2]
- Please fill out the student information part and submit the document.
C. Evidence Material (*Mandatory)
- Official document such as medical certificate or doctor’s note verifying you cannot start or continue the studies due to the COVID-19 positive confirmation (which is not a simple positive confirmation, but cannot continue due to COVID-19 complications and aftereffect during or after isolation)
- Official document indicating visa issuance not permitted from the embassy/consulate
(Applicable documents to prove your denied visa)
- Please describe the reason(s) for the special leave of absence(your health condition, the name of overseas country and region recently visited or stayed, the reason you cannot start or continue the studies this semester) as detailed as possible.
- Please include the name&amount of scholarship if you are a scholarship recipient.
D. Tuition Fee Refund Form (mandatory to be refunded) [Form 3]
(In case of Korean Bank Account, the account number should be updated at KUPID-portal.)
※ You don't necessarily need to submit the form 4, but please submit the copy of bankbook or official bank information page which includes the beneficiary's bank information: 1) Bank Name 2) Branch Name 3) Branch Address 4) Bank BIC code 5) Account Number (IBAN Code).
4. Reference
A. “Special Leave of Absence” is available only for Spring Semester 2023.
B. Freshmen should register for this first semester and then can apply for special leave of absence and tuition refund.
C. In case of recipients of KU GSIS Scholarship Spring semester 2023,
- In principle, KU GSIS scholarship will be redeemed.
- Only in case that one's confirmed Spring semester 2023 Special Leave of absence,
1) scholarship will be carried over only if one return to GSIS Fall Semester 2023.
2) scholarship will be extinct if one do not return to GSIS Fall Semester 2023.
D. The period of Special Leave of Absence will not only be excluded into the total period of Leave
of Absence, but also not be calculated during your study in KU.
