Human Rights Investigator

 Korea Future (KF) is seeking a full-time Investigator for the project titled the “North Korean Prison Database”. The focus of the job is to conduct investigations into violations of international law that have taken place in North Korea’s penal system to support national and international justice and accountability interventions.
 The successful candidate will work with KF’s team to conduct interviews with survivors, witnesses, and perpetrators; to engage in evidence analysis; to engage in case building and case management; and to support and participate in national and international advocacy efforts.

Experience
<Essential>
• Knowledge and practical experience of international criminal law and/or international human rights law;
• Knowledge of international legal procedures and instruments;
• Experience in the practical application of legal principles to research and documentation;
• Demonstrable research and writing skills;
• Written and spoken fluency in Korean; and
• Written and spoken fluency in English.

<Desirable>
• Experience working with international accountability mechanisms;
• Experience in or knowledge of the situation in North Korea; and
• Experience managing databases and large volumes of evidence pertaining to cases.

Professionalism
• Strong analytical skills and ability to conduct legal research on range of sensitive materials.

Planning and Organisation
• Ability to work effectively and to adhere to deadlines; and
• Ability to manage large volumes of research and evidential analysis.

Benefits
• This is a full-time position at 40 hours a week from 10:00-18:00 KST. Evening and weekend work may be required from time to time.
• The position is ideally based at the KF office in Seoul, but remote working may be considered. KF has a flexible working policy which allows some home working for staff in Seoul.
• KF staff are paid according to set salary scales, with annual cost of living increases, and the possibility of step increase with strong performance.
• KF offers contributions to a pension, healthcare, long-term care insurance, and personal accident insurance.
• The candidate must have the right to live and work in South Korea or a remote country to be employed in this role.

This role will run through to December 31, 2022 with strong possibility of extension based on performance and funding.
