with a focus on education, gender, and culture

& Visiting Lecturer at UNESCO Teacher Education Center, Shanghai Normal University


The CAMPUS Asia Plus and BK21 Program of Glocal Studies are pleased to present a special lecture by Dr. Jordan Naidoo, former Acting Director of UNESCO Afghanistan Office and UNESCO-IIEP Acting Director. 


Based on his rich experiences in conflict areas, Dr. Naidoo will speak to us on risk management in conflict-affected countries, with a focus on education, gender, and culture. It will be a very insightful lecture based on his firsthand experience of the complex challenges in these areas, focusing on resilience of communities, the role of education in stabilizing societies, the importance of respecting cultural and gender dynamics in conflict zones, and key competencies needed to work in conflict-affected areas. Dr. Naidoo is currently a visiting Lecturer and Technical expert at Teachers Education Center Shanghai Normal University. Prior to his appointment to UNESCO Afghanistan Office, he was the Director of the Division of Education 2030 Support and Coordination at UNESCO HQ, leading UNESCO’s work of the SDG4-Education 2030 Agenda. Prior to this, he was a Senior Education Advisor at UNICEF in New York responsible for research on equity and innovation in education. 


Dr. Naidoo has worked directly on programs in Indonesia, Nepal, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Bolivia and Haití, South Africa, and the US among others. He received his M. Ed. from the University of Natal, South Africa and Doctor of Education (D. Ed.) from Harvard University.
